Shoulder Pain and Car Crashes

We treat many auto injury cases in in our San Angelo office, and a common symptom we see in our patients is shoulder pain. Why is shoulder pain such a common problem after a car accident? How can your chiropractor help you get better?

There are at least two different ways that you can get shoulder pain after a car crash: by direct trauma to the shoulder or by radiating pain from the neck.

Direct damage can be caused by hitting your shoulder on a hard object in the car during the crash, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end collision. With this type of injury, you'll usually be aware of the pain soon after the crash.

More commonly, Dr. Tim Pittman finds that shoulder or arm pain does not immediately appear after a crash, but starts a few days or weeks after the injury. This type of shoulder pain actually starts in the neck. Injured soft tissue in your spine can pinch nerves in your neck, causing numbness, tingling, or soreness in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've treated both kinds of shoulder problems in our San Angelo office. This process involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural flexibility and exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.

Let us help you recover from shoulder pain. Dr. Tim Pittman has helped many people with the same problem, and we can probably help you, too.
